Parts of Speech:
The words that we use can be divided into these classes:

• noun - A noun is a type of word that represents a person, thing, or place, like mother, apple, or valley.
• verb - A verb is a type of word that describes action or a state of being, like wiggle, walk, run, jump, be, do, have, or think.
• pronoun - A pronoun is a substitute for a noun. Some pronouns are: I, me, she, hers, he, him, it, you, they, them, etc.
• adjective - An adjective is a word that describes something (a noun). Some adjectives are: big, cold, blue, and silly.
• adverb - An adverb is a word that tells "how," "when," "where," or "how much". Some adverbs are: easily, warmly, quickly, mainly, freely, often, and unfortunately.
• preposition - A preposition is a word that shows the spatial (space), temporal (time), or logical relationship of its object to the rest of the sentence. The words above, near, at, by, after, with and from are prepositions.
• conjunction - A conjunction is a word that joins other words, phrases, clauses or sentences. Some conjunctions are: and, as, because, but, or, since, so, until, and while.
• interjection - An interjection is a word that expresses emotion. An interjection often starts a sentence but it can be contained within the sentence or can stand alone. Some interjections are oh, wow, ugh, hurray, eh, and ah.
• article - An article is a word that introduces a noun and also limits or clarifies it. In English, the indefinite articles are a and an; the definite article is the.

MOM 2002 Palindromes A palindrome is a word, phrase or number that reads the same forward and backward. Some palindromes are: the name Bob, the number 101, and the phrase, "Madam, I'm Adam."	Similes A simile is a way of describing something by comparing it to something else, often using the word "like" or "as." For example, "He is as brave as a lion." Read common similes and do activities on similes.	Vocabulary Worksheets These graphic organizers for vocabulary words can be used to help students learn new vocabulary words. For each new vocabulary word, the student writes the word, its definition, its part of speech, a synonym, an antonym, the draws a picture that illustrates the meaning of the word, and writes a meaningful sentence using the word.	Grammar Potpourri Worksheets Find synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, anagrams, and compound words, then capitalize, punctuate, and correct the spelling of sentences.
Parts of Speech: Write a Question for Each Answer In this worksheet, the student is given a series of short answers using parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, etc.). For each answer, the student writes a short question.	Find a Word for Each Letter See if you can think of and write down a word that starts with each letter of the alphabet. Or go to a sample answer page.	Compound Words A compound words is a word that is made up of two or more other words. For example, the word dragonfly is made up of two words, dragon and fly. Read some common compound words and do activities on compound words.
